CAUTION: PRODUCT ALERT
CAUTION: PRODUCT ALERT While November usually means the start of some of our local growing season for summer vegetables such as Cherry Tomatoes, Tomatoes, Zucchinis, Snow Peas, local Herbs Etc, this year the season seems to be running a little late. There have also been several lines in very short supply at the moment.
Artichokes: Both the globe and Jerusalem season has finished for the year and both are spring vegetables, please keep this in mind when setting your summer menus.
Royal Blue Potatoes: While supply has improved slightly, demand remains high, this of course effects pricing. While the information received from both growers and merchants indicates better supply towards the end of the month on select Royal Blues large will still be a problem.
Kiwi Fruit: With the New Zealand fruit now almost, finished supply has dried up on this line. Supply will remain short for the next month until we start to see the imported Kiwis from Italy and the US. What is available now will also be expensive.
Melons: Watermelon is in good supply with the Broome season in full swing, while our market price on this line is controlled by demand from the Eastern states pricing will fluctuate over the month while quality will remain good. Rockmelon and Honeydews on the other hand have become very short with very little coming down from our North west.
Strawberries: Our local season is in full swing with very good quality berries now available, this should continue until mid-December, with both price and quality remaining stable. Make the most of these tasty berries and add some to your menu today.
Apples: With the approach of summer the W.A supply of Apples always takes a hit, with better than expected sales over winter, supply will this year be low, with very little juicing fruit available now and no respite expected before we get into our new season fruit in March next year. Supply is not keeping up with demand and we are having to draw Apples from the Eastern States, expect prices on all Apples will continue to rise. Our only saving grace here is we are expecting a bumper local stone fruit season even if it will be a little late starting due to the cooler start to spring.
Celeriac: No local or Eastern States Celeriac will be available for at least 6 weeks as growers have finished. We will keep you all updated when they start.
Stonefruit: As the weather warms up we will start to see more and more of our local stone fruit hit the market prices will come down as supply improves with this year’s crop predicted to be a good season. Make the most of this very short local season.
Mangos: The Ord River season is looking good with good supplies already on the market This sweet fruit is a fantastic addition to any dish and with prices only getting cheaper now is the time to buy
Avocados: It has been a crazy year for Avocado growers with the demand throughout Australia well outstripping supply. This has had a dramatic effect on prices over the last few months with no real relief in sight.
Mushrooms: Demand for Mushrooms Australia wide has seen prices continue to remain high over the last few months. We are hoping that once grower get warmer conditions supply will pick up and prices will decrease. We will keep you all updated on this situation as we do understand this line makes up a large proportion of your food costings on fruit & veg spend
Limes: Still in very short supply with only first grade available. The Queensland season has started but demand has been very strong throughout Australia. We expect prices to come back in late November early December when we will have local Limes available as well. In the mean time expect to pay well over the $20.00 per kilo mark for Limes.
